Spotlight on Historic American Music at Susquehanna University
Directed by Rick Benjamin
This three day celebration includes performances and workshops by leading professional musicians and the students and faculty of the Department of Music at Susquehanna University.
Jazz pianist Jeff Barnhart will present the recital Cookin’ With Fats: A Scrumptious Swinging’ Smorgasbord of the Life and Music of the Clown Prince of Jazz at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9. Melody, lyric, story and image meld in Barnhart’s presentation of the music of Harlem stride pianist Thomas “Fats” Waller. Whether Barnhart is sharing a timeless favorite, brushing off a forgotten classic or presenting an extreme rarity, audiences will be transported into Waller’s unique place in jazz history. A question-and-answer segment will wrap up this multi-media experience.
