Spotlight on Historic American Music at Susquehanna University - Day 4
Directed by Rick Benjamin
This three day celebration includes performances and workshops by leading professional musicians and the students and faculty of the Department of Music at Susquehanna University.
On Friday, November 13 there will be two events: At 12:30 pm there will be a watch party to celebrate the premiere of Rick Benjamin's short documentary film Harry L. Alford: King of Arrangers, exploring the life and career of American arranger and composer Harry L. Alford. Born in 1875, Alford had an astounding influence on early 20th century American music, and is still remembered today for his band marches, including "Glory of the Gridiron" (1932) and "The Purple Carnival" (1933).
Following the watch party, Susquehanna University music students will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. The recital will feature student chamber music groups and soloists in voice, piano and accordion.
Both events will take place in Stetansky Concert Hall in the Cuninghamm Center for Music & Art.
